Our Story
We are The Hobin Family: John, Charmaine, Lucas & Gracie. While John and Charmaine will be directly serving you and your family during your student athlete's journey, we will be guiding you based on our experiences with both Lucas and Gracie so we figured they have earned the mention. :)
Lucas is currently attending the United States Air Force Academy and will be playing Division I Basketball in the Mountain West Conference (MWC). Gracie has verbally committed to continue her academic and athletic career at Vanderbilt University and will be playing Division I Volleyball in the Southeastern Conference (SEC).
Both John and Charmaine have been alongside both Lucas and Gracie as they developed into college level athletes, learning countless lessons during their individual paths. Now, we want to help families like yours gain the athlete advantage as you navigate the youth sports space.
There are many resources out there for athletes but we believe there is something missing. That something is a personalized touchpoint for parents. We want to be your touchpoint on demand. As parents, we are the number one support system for our children and this is our most important job. So, we are here to help you help your athlete gain the athlete advantage with confidence and joy from wherever they are in their journey.
We are a new venture and we are excited to see how many families we can guide by providing both group sessions and personalized consulting. We understand that every athlete is unique and that you invest a great deal of time, money, and energy into your child's athletic journey. Our goal is to transform your and your student athlete's experience into one that is individualized, joyful, and gives you an incredible return on investment.

The Athlete Advantage Team

John Hobin
Owner
John is a native of Nova Scotia, Canada (who was recently granted his U.S. citizenship) and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering. After a successful career in the oil and gas industry, John has transitioned into the youth sports space. Having been a multi-sport college level athlete himself and having coached multiple sports at varying age levels, John understands what it takes to be a successful student athlete. As a college student pursuing multiple degrees, John maximized his eligibility and played five years of collegiate volleyball at Dalhousie University, earning three Canadian Interscholastic national medals. He also played collegiate basketball at the Technical University of Nova Scotia.
John gained his passion for working with children from his parents, who were both educators. His father was a high school Biology teacher, assistant principal, then principal. His mother was a first grade teacher and also looked after her elderly mother. As a young adult, John spent much of his time at the Department of Community Services where he worked with at-risk youth. He became the Director of SuperNova Science and Engineering, an outreach program servicing schools and providing camps, and he also coached both indoor and beach volleyball in Canada for many years.
Starting in 2008 and throughout the past 15 years, John has worked as a volunteer coach for the YMCA and i9 as well as the Katy Youth Basketball and Katy Youth Football leagues. John is currently serving as a volleyball referee in the University Interscholastic League (UIL). John has a natural sports acumen that he enjoys sharing with young athletes and their families as they navigate their individual sports development and the recruiting arena. John knows the technical aspects of athletics and has been instrumental in providing his own children balanced guidance throughout their youth sports journey. Now, he wants to have a greater impact by sharing his expertise with even more families.

Charmaine Hobin, Ed.D.
Owner
Charmaine was raised by her mom, Donna, in Baltimore, MD. From a young age, Charmaine always knew she would be a teacher. In the early 1990's, she moved to Virginia Beach, VA where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies and Master of Science in Education from Old Dominion University. After a successful teaching and coaching career at Bayside Middle School, Charmaine transitioned to teaching high school math at Landstown High School and Technology Academy where she was instrumental in supporting high school student athletes with their academics to maintain their eligibility to play.
As a result of encouragement from colleagues and mentors, Charmaine earned her Education Specialist in Educational Administration and began pursuing positions in school leadership. She served as an Instructional Specialist at Willowridge High School, Marshall High School, and Progressive High School, supporting both students and teachers before her leadership roles as Assistant Principal at Sartartia Middle School, Principal at Commonwealth Elementary School, and district Leadership Coordinator, all in Fort Bend ISD.
Charmaine earned her Doctorate in Educational Leadership and Cultural Studies from the University of Houston in 2012, and in March of 2014, Charmaine was named Principal of Roosevelt Alexander Elementary where she has served the Katy ISD community with joy for the past 11 years. During her years in Katy, Charmaine has served as a volunteer coach, team mom, participant and "MC" of an annual student-staff basketball game as well as in various leadership positions in National Charity League (NCL) and Young Men's Service League (YMSL). Charmaine loves being around young people and believes wholeheartedly that "it takes a village" to help our youth develop into great human beings. She is excited to help even more families and their student athletes build bright futures.
